Through an open call in May 2026, COMMODE commissioned a series of essays addressing the conditions of contemporary art practice in Aotearoa. The writers were asked to consider how artists and arts workers might move beyond institutional anxiety, precarity and the political ambiguity that increasingly define the sector.
