COMMODE is dedicated to supporting experimental and critically engaged art practices that operate at the forefront of contemporary discourse. Extending our broader commitment to curatorial experimentation, the COMMODE backroom foregrounds artists whose works engage social, political, and aesthetic questions across research, performance, image making, and post-object practice.

Artists in the COMMODE backroom include Tobias Allen, Ys Blue, Elvis Booth-Claveria, Fiona Clark, Paul Johns, Ritual Heaps, Jack Ellery, Kat Lang, Aroha Matchitt-Millar, Alexandra McFarlane, and Telly Tuita.

Works sold through COMMODE are held in the collections of Te Pātaka Toi Adam Art Gallery, Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa, and The Dowse Art Museum.
