A Trans Performance Salon

Join val smith and Cassie Gilmore-Freeth in a gathering of Irawhiti, Trans, non-binary, and gender non-conforming artists who are exploring performance in their creative practice, or are interested in doing so. We will be hosting a space at COMMODE for connection, support, and sharing, facilitating a discussion about performance practices, and thinking about what is important to each of us at this time.
Snacks will be provided.

val smith (Celtic Pākehā, they/them) is a choreographic artist based in Tāmaki Mākaurau. Recent works investigate more-than-human kinship, trans intimacies, and queer temporalities through outdoor urban performances within the cultural context of Aotearoa.
Cassie Gilmore-Freeth (Celtic Pākehā, she/her) is a sculptor and performance artist based in Te Whanganui-a-Tara, whose practice is driven by decay, lesbian sadomasochism, and symbiotic power relations.
val and Cassie are currently working together with a third collaborator, Eleven Greenstones, on a live work called TRUSS for The Performance Arcade 2026.
